Apparel and Ability
Though it may seem silly, the apparel one wears while skiing can have an effect on one’s abilities while skiing. First of all, if one’s apparel does not fit appropriately or the material is not flexible it can limit the skier’s performance. Ski apparel should be comfy and allow easy and comfortable movement for the individual wearing them. One does not want to feel restricted in the clothing they are sporting, especially when skiing. A flexible material will allow better movement and more comfort. Also a proper fit will help one to feel more cozy and free to move. To be safe one should try their ski attire on before making a ski trip to make sure it fits right. While too big clothes can be taken care of by additional underneath layers, clothes that are too small will make not only layering hard but movement will be hard as well. A skier does not want to worry about discomfort the entire time. Their mind should be occupied with excitement and an adrenaline rush that causes them to comfortably try new things. Another aspect that can occupy the mind is the discomfort of cold. One should wear enough apparel to stay warm. For optimal warmth apparel should be water proof to keep the moisture out. If it is too cold it is hard for an individual to perform to the best of their ability and to endure. Discomfort might take over and inhibit the skier’s performance. Comfort and discomfort can greatly impact ones experience and even their ability to perform at an optimal level. Apparel can make a big difference. It can also affect and individual’s mindset. If they are properly equipped they will feel more prepared and safe to perform. There could even be a pride factor. This last theory may sound like a stretch, but attire can affect pride. If an individual feels they are nicely equipped with the best ski gear they can also have a sense of pride. That pride can carry over onto their performance on the ski slopes and they will execute their moves with more precision because of their pride.
